This is my online journal of my adventure through South Africa with International Student Volunteers. I am volunteering in a rural community called Chintsa, then taking a road trip around the East Side of the county, into Mozambique. You will see pictures, and descriptions of what I am seeing and doing! I hope you enjoy!

Our Project
For our two week project, we will be constructing an out house for a day care/ orphanage in a local village named Gwalekha. The group right before us was the first ISV group to help, by building a playground for the daycare. The out house sounds like a gross project, but it is so necessary. Right now the children have training toilets, in the open, right behind the building. (By building, I mean metal paneled walls, with tin roofs) We split into two group, one for painting and one for construction. We had to prime the zinc panels before putting them up for the walls. Then the group had to dig holes for the posts, and laid down the cement base. We are hoping to have it finished before the end of this week, so we can do maintenance on previous ISV projects around the area.
