We were able to meet a few of the locals, and another volunteer group from England. We all assumed they were much older than us, but after talking to them for a bit we discovered that we all were the same age. One of the guys in that group is turning 21 a few days after me, so we had to have a little bit of an early celebration together. Unfortunately, they are leaving to go home on Monday, but they all insisted on adding me on Facebook at the bar so we can stay in touch. Now I have multiple connections in England to meet up with if I ever go.
This is my online journal of my adventure through South Africa with International Student Volunteers. I am volunteering in a rural community called Chintsa, then taking a road trip around the East Side of the county, into Mozambique. You will see pictures, and descriptions of what I am seeing and doing! I hope you enjoy!

The Barefoot Cafe
The Barefoot Cafe is the local bar/restaurant about 5 blocks away from our house. We went to celebrate our long week of hard work, and to try the local beer. The local beer is a gold ale, and reminds me of a less sugary summer shandy. We couldn't get enough of it! The alcohol percentage in it is much higher than regular American beer; I believe we all estimated it to be 8% or possibly higher. To start off the night we tried the shot of the night, which is called "Ebola Vaccination". (Yes, I'm being completely serious) They were way too sugary/sweet for me, but a lot of the girls in our group took multiple. It was a blast getting to know our group members, and leaders, in a totally different setting than work.
